Patient Safety Strategy: have your say

Our colleagues at NHS England and NHS Improvement would like to share two consultations with you which are key parts of the Patient Safety Strategy . These consultations provide the opportunity for you to comment and shape both the role of Patient Safety Specialists and the National Patient Safety Syllabus.

  • As stated in the NHS Patient Safety Strategy, NHS England and NHS Improvement will soon be asking NHS organisations to identify individuals as their Patient Safety Specialist(s) to oversee and support patient safety activities across their organisation. To test proposals, a consultation has been launched on a draft Patient Safety Specialist requirements document. You can view the draft and provide your feedback via the consultation webpage until 12 March 2020.

Your responses will help shape the final role specification, that NHS organisations will use to support the identification of their Patient Safety Specialist(s) by June 2020.

  • On 24 January, the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC) published the initial iteration of the first ever national patient safety syllabus for the NHS. This is another key programme of work included in the NHS Patient Safety Strategy, commissioned by Health Education England. The syllabus will underpin the development of patient safety curricula for all NHS staff. AoMRC are asking for feedback on this first iteration by 28 February 2020, and will then consider revisions based on the comments it receives. You can view the syllabus and provide your feedback via the AoMRC website.

Please also share with other colleagues in your organisation who may have an interest.
