Colleagues at the HSSIB (Health Services Safety Investigation Body) have issued their final report all around ambulatory syringe pumps and their alarms, lack of monitoring and limitations.
Despite having audio and visual warning alarms to notify when medication is not being delivered as it should be, there is a risk that alarms can go unnoticed, particularly by healthcare staff in inpatient settings. The report makes three safety recommendations to the British Standards Institution, NHS England and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
